This trip focuses on Cultural Immersion, Adventure and Conservation. Journey through a wide variety of Belize’s ecosystems by venturing on an exclusive tour of the protected areas co-managed by our non-profit partner combined with hands – on community and cultural experiences with experienced local rangers and tour guides. This trip is perfect for families, student groups and anyone else who has interest in volunteering with the local community that combine with culture, ecotourism and fun.
Day 1
Welcome to Belize / Punta Gorda Town
After arriving in Belize, you will be met by our friendly Travel To Do Good partner staff at the International Airport in Belize City. You will enjoy a 3 1/2 hour scenic drive to Toledo, which is located in the southernmost district of Belize, and the basecamp of most of your time in Belize. For the first 4 nights of the trip you have the option of a home stay with a local family or you may stay at the Big Falls retreat, a lovely rustic vacation home. During your trip you will have a private cook, guide/driver who will accompany you throughout your stay.
Day 2
Getting acquainted
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your Belize home. Your guide will meet you after breakfast, where your group will be given a conservation presentation about our non profit partner’s work in Belize, an overview of your expedition and health and safety briefing. After lunch, enjoy a sightseeing tour around Punta Gorda and surrounding villages and participate in a lively cultural creole drumming lesson at the Maroon Creole Drum School.
Day 3
Reforestation with local community groups!
Today your group will participate in reforestation along with other children from a Maya Community of Columbia Village, where you will help to plant trees along the banks of one of Toledo’s rivers known as the Rio Grande. Lunch will be served in a traditional Mayan home with a family.
Day 4
Protected Areas Sign Painting!
Kids from neighbouring communities will join you on a half day signage project. Under the direction of the guide and park ranger, you will be a part of a team of volunteers who will help to paint signs that are much needed in the protected areas. In the afternoon, you will visit a dry cave to explore ancient Maya footsteps.
Day 5
Volunteering on a family Cacao Farm
Some of the alternative activities that you will learn more about includes agroforestry. Your group will connect with a local family and assist on their farm to plant caoco and harvest cacao and make chocolate. From planting, to harvesting, to the actual chocolate product, you will witness all phases of chocolate production.
Drive to Placencia in the evening for a 3 night’s stay at a beach resort!
Day 6
Relax on the beach, Snorkelling
Today you can walk around the village of Placencia, visit its famous gelato shop and spend time relaxing on the beach.
Day 7
Placencia and tour at Cockscomb
Your guide will take you on a popular adventure at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can enjoy hiking on this mountain range and stopping in at spectacular waterfall sites to enjoy picnic lunch. Overnight in Placencia
Day 8
Depart Belize!
Your guide will transport you to the International Airport after breakfast.
